Verified Purchase. I am a long time Visio user from way back. Rather than reviewing all the Visio features, I will just comment on the changes that make Visio more in sync with the latest Microsoft office suite.

Generally, I think it is best to purchase upgrades and continue to grow with the product rather than try to figure out if there are new features that are meaningful to me. In the end, a few bucks spend every so often mean that one keeps up to date and avoid unpleasant surprises later on when features and formats are entirely different.

With this reasoning I purchased Visio I already had Office which introduced the new ribbon style menus and after some initial adjustment had no issues with the new way of working. Visio , however, is a different beast. The ribbon style menus are horrible.

In some cases you will need to go into configuration settings and select “developer mode” to get menus that are otherwise missing non-developer menus btw. It is difficult to work in this package, it is very difficult to like it. After many hours working with it, I just want to smack someone on that development team! Oh well, venting mode off. Visio is a very capable package and the ribbon menu style is probably here to stay at least for a while so one might better get used to it.

However, if you have a previous version and are happy with it, perhaps wait till a later release to see if Microsoft improves the menus. For total capabilities: 5 stars, for crappy menus: 1 star; average 3. I always enjoyed Visio as a cheap option on simpler projects, but it lacked integration and a number of templates.

This is no longer the case – Visio Premium has everything a developer needs, plus more. It also has the benefit of being reasonably priced compared to some of the premium packages out there. I have yet to find any bugs – major or otherwise, and the templates are extendable. Probably one of the best products I’ve ever seen from Microsoft and showing obvious improvement compared to their buggy software of a decade ago.

Note: If you need to use Visio for development purposes, you really need the premium. I note that an earlier review loved the product but hated the ribbon. I’m really starting to love them. For any developer this is a must! I started out with Harvard Graphics to give you an idea of how long I’ve been in this. VISIO is perfect for two-dimensional stuff like floorplans, schematics, and flow charts. Unlike VISIO, which has libraries that can easily be added to, repetitive objects oftentimes have the wrong scale.

Visio offers great possibilities for making flowcharts, drawings, plans, etc. A figure says more than a lot of text, and the tool Visio makes it easy to make the diagram.

Definitely value for money product and would highly recommend this seller to any potential buyer.
